WHEELING—Marking the end of 17 years of service at St. Michael Parish School in Wheeling, the school and parish community came together for a special Mass to honor retired principal Marilyn “Sis” Richardson on May 19. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, S.T.D., V.E., and Father William Matheny Jr., associate pastor of St. Michael’s, concelebrated the Mass. After the Mass, School Advisory Board Chairman Brann Altmeyer announced the establishment of the new “Sis Richardson Hand In Hand Scholarship” in honor of Richardson’s dedication and love for her students. The scholarship was made possible through the generous donations of school families, alumni, both current and former teachers, school and parish staff and members of the community. “Throughout my years at St. Michael’s, my focus has truly been on the students—on their faith journey and their academic achievements,” Richardson said. “I am so proud to be associated with the Hand In Hand Scholarship because it will ensure a quality Catholic education at St. Michael’s for many deserving students into the future. I’m truly blessed to have been associated with such a wonderful school over so many years.” During the announcement, St. Michael’s seventh-grader Sean Galloway was introduced as the first Hand In Hand Scholarship recipient, receiving a $500 scholarship toward his 2012-13 tuition.
