Diocese Made Aware of Alleged Sexual Misconduct

WHEELING—The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston was made aware of an allegation of sexual misconduct by a religious order priest of the Glenmary Home Missioners involving a minor in Spencer in 1991.

The notification was provided by the Glenmary Order, which did confirm that the complaint had been promptly reported to the appropriate authorities for investigation and that the priest had been removed from ministry pending the investigation as required by diocesan policy and the 2003 Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.

The priest, Father Bob Poandl, does not reside in West Virginia and currently resides at the Glenmary Order headquarters in Cincinnati.

The Glenmary Order initiated its own Victim Outreach Program to aid the victim and his family and will address the priest’s status based on the outcome of the current criminal proceeding and its own internal investigation.
