Sister Mary Concetta Gentile, SAC

 Sister Mary Concetta Gentile, SAC, (Mary Frances), a member of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, died February 20, 2009, at the age of 88 at St. Mary’s Infirmary in Huntington.

Sister Gentile was born June 28, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sister Gentile was one of six children of the late Dominic and Vincentia (Ranallo) Gentile. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Frank, Dominic (who died in WWII) and Brother Albert, TOR. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence, and sister, retired Col. Margaret Gentile, both from Pittsburgh.

Sister Gentile entered the Pallottine Missionary Sisters on July 24, 1938, in Huntington. She made her final vows as a Pallottine Missionary Sister on August 15, 1947, in Huntington. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington and a master’s degree in education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She attended Marshall University in Huntington, received certification in sanitation practice for food service from The Pennsylvania State University and earned a certificate in theology from Providence College in Rhode Island.

She taught in Pittsburgh, Huntington, Richwood and Laurel, Md., for a total of 35 years. She also taught summer school for religion in Buckhannon for two summers, in Gary for seven summers and in Powhatan for 12 summers. After she retired from teaching, she served in the Dietary Department at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.

The Mass of Christian burial was held February 23 at St. Mary’s Chapel in Huntington. Interment was at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the mission fund of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters.
